  1. The Grandstream HandyTone must first be configured to operate with your network. Connect the HandyTone to your computer through the LAN port, and the HandyTone to your network through the WAN port. If your LAN has a DHCP server then the HandyTone will automatically obtain an IP address. If not, then the IP address must be setup using a phone connected to the device. Please refer to the Grandstream website for more information on configuring the IP address: http://www.grandstream.com/user_manuals/HT488UserManual.pdf.
  2. If your phone was configured using DHCP then the IP address can be found by connecting a phone to the device, picking up the receiver, pressing the green button on the device and then entering '02' into the telephone: the IP address will be read out.
  3. Once the device has an IP address you can complete the configuration process via a web browser. Simply direct your browser to the ip address of the device e.g. http://192.168.0.12 and enter the phone password. The default password is 'admin'.
  4. Once you have logged in, click on the 'BASIC SETTINGS' link and check the following settings:
    • Time Zone - set as appropriate
    • Daylight Savings Time - set as appropriate
  5. Click on the Update button
  6. Click on the 'ADVANCED SETTINGS' link and check the following settings:
    • FXS Port:

    • SIP Server - conversant.co.nz
    • Outbound Proxy - proxy.conversant.co.nz
    • SIP User ID - The User ID you provided when activating your Conversant account.
    • Authenticate password - The password you provided when setting up your Conversant account.
    • Name - Your name
    • General Misc. Settings:

    • NAT Traversal - Yes
    • STUN server - stun.fwdnet.net:3478
    • NTP server - time.nist.gov
  7. After entering all of the required setting click 'Update' at the bottom of the page then 'Basic Settings' to return to the configuration page and then click 'Reboot' for your changes to take effect.
  8. When the Handytone restarts the button on its front should flash red initially and then after about 30s should stop flashing. If it continues flashing the device has not registered - recheck all of the settings and try again. Otherwise contact Conversant support.
