FAQ - fax

Can I send and receive faxes?

You can use our fax service in the following ways:

  1. Connect a traditional fax machine to an ATA (e.g. SPA2102). Send and receive faxes as normal
  2. Send us an email with a pdf or tiff attachment of the document to fax and we'll deliver it via fax
  3. Tell us the email address(es) you want faxes delivered to and we'll send any faxes we receive as a pdf attachment
  4. You can combine these methods e.g. receive via email, send via fax machine

How do I send faxes via email?

Send an email to number@faxout.conversant.co.nz with a pdf or tiff attachment of the document to send. We'll deliver it as a fax. For example to send a fax to 091234567, send the email to 091234567@faxout.conversant.co.nz. For international numbers, enter the number as if you were dialling it from a New Zealand phone. e.g. 0061212345678@faxout.conversant.co.nz.

Can I send a broadcast fax?

Yes. Just send the email to us with all the recipients listed in the To: address of the email.

My outbound fax sent via email is failing

In most cases this will be due to interpretation issues with the pdf attachment. To ensure the best possible chances of transmission

  1. Create the pdf in portrait, not landscape
  2. Ensure the pdf is in black and white, not colour
  3. Ensure there are no other attachments with the email and that the message body of the email is blank. Delete any email signatures.

If the fax is still failing, try creating the document as a series of single-page pdf documents and sending each individually.
